Our education and exams are delivered entirely online, giving you maximum flexibility and no travel stress. Professional exams use a trusted e-assessment format recognised globally for quality and integrity all from the comfort of your home.
We have two enrolment options, Classic and Modular at CAP 1 and CAP 2 levels, giving you even more choice on what your journey looks like. Students may move between Classic and Modular enrolments. For sponsored students or students on the Training Contract pathway, however, the enrolment option will be determined by their employer or training firm.
Classic enrolment
Classic enrolment follows the traditional academic calendar and is designed for students who prefer a structured, year-long learning experience. Under this option, the programme runs from September through to April, with exams taking place in May or June, depending on the level being studied.
Students have the flexibility to enrol in a full suite of subjects for the academic year or to take a lighter workload by selecting a minimum of two subjects.
Modular enrolment
Modular enrolment offers a more flexible approach to study, enabling students to focus on two subjects at a time within an intensive eight-week programme block. At the end of each block, students sit examinations before progressing to their next set of subjects.
Classic Enrolment follows the established academic year structure of eight-month duration. Modular Enrolment allows you to study in focused subject blocks, with more opportunities to begin and sit exams during the year.
Whichever route you choose, the qualification, syllabus, exams and professional standards remain the same.
Why we’re introducing Modular Enrolment
Today’s students balance work, study and personal commitments in different ways. Modular Enrolment can give you greater flexibility over when you start, what you study and how you progress through CAP1 and CAP2, while maintaining the academic rigour and quality expected of a Chartered Accountant.
Chartered Accountants Ireland is leading the way with pioneering innovations in online learning that provide this flexibility. The Institute is the first in the world to roll out a new model of online learning, Adaptive Learning which is already delivering enhanced learning experience, increased pass rates and greater student satisfaction.
Autoscored online exams now in place at CAP1 and CAP2 maintain the required challenge of professional-level exams while providing results in approximately a week. This provides certainty for our students, reduces stress, and clarifies students’ progress.
Which option should I choose?
Choose the route that best fits your study preferences, work commitments and training contract timeline.
Choose Classic Enrolment if you prefer a slower-paced, structured academic year, a consistent study pattern and the traditional annual exam cycle. If you are in a training contract with a training firm, they may guide you to this option.
Choose Modular Enrolment if you need greater flexibility, prefer to focus on fewer subjects at one time or want more opportunities to begin studying during the year, and you know that you’re studying in a shorter education cycle and can start studying hard from day one.
Contact studentqueries@charteredaccountants.ie if you feel your choice may be affected by exemptions, your training contract timeline or previous exam results.
