Chief Executive’s welcome

8th October 2026

Welcome to this edition of Accountancy Ireland, and a special welcome to our newest members who have recently been admitted at ceremonies across the island.

Admission to membership events are always among the highlights of our year, celebrating dedication, hard work and accomplishment. They also remind us of the vitality and potential of the future of our profession.

This is also an exciting time for those just beginning their Chartered journey. At this time of year, a new cohort of students is embarking on its professional journey through a range of pathways, whether training in practice, training in business or following our flexible route.

Training in business is an important and growing route into the profession, reflecting both the strong demand for Chartered Accountants in organisations and the value of developing future members within the environments where they can make an immediate impact.

Educating and inspiring the next generation of Chartered Accountants is one of three core priorities under Strategy27. As expectations around education and careers change, we must continue to ensure that every pathway into the profession is accessible, relevant and responsive to the needs of today’s trainees and employers.

We cannot know exactly what these students’ future workplaces will look like. Technology is reshaping organisations at pace and creating new opportunities, while regulatory requirements continue to evolve and businesses navigate increasingly complex challenges, often driven by circumstances beyond their control.

In this changing environment, the skills and qualities that define Chartered Accountants will remain essential: professional judgement, ethical leadership, critical thinking and trusted advice.

The features in this issue demonstrate just how diverse and impactful our profession has become. From entrepreneurs, leaders and innovators helping to shape the future of business, to members advising clients through pivotal life and business decisions, strengthening governance frameworks and navigating emerging technologies, Chartered Accountants continue to be difference makers across every sector of our economies.

These stories exemplify the commitments Chartered Accountants share: adding value, being open to and enabling change, and serving the public interest. Whether facilitating business growth, managing risk or applying expertise in new and innovative ways, you – our members – continue to demonstrate the qualities that are the hallmarks of the Chartered designation.

Having met our newest members, I am optimistic about what lies ahead for them and for the profession, which, as it continues to evolve, is creating new avenues for career development and impact.

The stories in these pages show that opportunities for the Chartered Accountants of today and tomorrow are broader and more exciting than ever.

Thank you to all the members who have shared their insights and experiences with us for this edition, which I hope you enjoy.
