The event was opened by Mark Lawther, Chairman of the Ulster Society and the opening address was given by Pamela McCreedy, who was recently appointed as President of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
The key note speaker was Jeremy Fitch who gave an inspiring talk on his leadership experience through his career working in Economic Development in Northern Ireland including Invest NI. He spoke about the importance of truth and values in holding others to account and the importance of positivity and trust to deliver success in the context of public sector.
The event also included presentations from Sharon Smyth from CPD, on latest developments in Procurement including the new Procurement Act, and from Jeff McGuinness, Department ofFinance w ho spoke on Budgeting and Financial sustainability issues across the public sector.
Suzanne Jones from the NIAO gave an insightful presentation on the work of the Audit office and highlighted emerging issues relating to Sustainability Reporting and Digitalisation opportunities impacting audit.
Elaine Stewart from QUB presented her work on Public Sector Sustainability Accounting and reporting: Andrew McKibben, a Partner in Deloitte ended the event with a presentation on the opportunities and challenges of using AI to support the work of public sector through the use of technology. Delegates enjoyed lunch and the opportunity to catch up and explore the wonderful setting at Windsor Park.
With the public sector facing unprecedented challenges and inevitable change, the Blitz reaffirmed the vital contribution of Chartered Accountants in building resilient organisations, through strong leadership and harnessing innovative approaches.
