Protection of real wages and SME supports must be addressed in Budget 2027

Chartered Accountants Ireland has called on the Government to prioritise measures that enhance Ireland’s competitiveness and support long-term economic growth in Budget 2027.

The Institute’s pre-Budget Submission, published on 10 July, called for targeted measures to improve Ireland’s tax competitiveness, protect real wages and support business.

Budget 2027 is an opportunity to address the impact of fiscal drag, reduce unnecessary compliance and ensure the tax system supports work, investment and enterprise, Cróna Clohisey, Director of Members and Advocacy, Chartered Accountants Ireland, said.

“A long-term commitment to a more competitive income tax regime supports both our indigenous businesses and our multinational sector”, Clohisey said.

“When tax bands and credits fail to keep pace with inflation, this creates challenges not just for workers but for employers too, particularly SMEs, who are under increasing pressure to deliver higher wages simply to maintain take-home pay”.

While Ireland has been successful in attracting international investment, the Institute said equal attention must be given to supporting those who take risks, start businesses and create jobs across local communities and sectors.

“The scale of the Budget package available to the Government reflects the strength of Ireland’s economy. Budget 2027 should now use that position to improve competitiveness and support indigenous enterprise”, Clohisey said.
