Introduced to the Irish market in 2005, Exchange Traded Funds provide investors with the opportunity to invest in a portfolio of securities that aims to replicate the performance of an underlying index. In September 2008, a range of innovative new ETFs was launched on the ISE. Brian Healy and Niall Gibney describe the background to these developments and outline some of the advantages of investing in ETFs.
